Hi Sarita Juanita! Thanks for reaching out to our team and for expressing your concern about the plastic packaging used for some of our flour products available online.
Ramifications around plastic are a regular and serious part of our conversations. As a founding B Corp, caring for the environment is woven right into our triple bottom line of people, planet, profit. Materials for food packaging — including their benefits and potential impacts — are carefully considered every time we bring a new product to market.
We are offering new, web-exclusive flours in resealable plastic bags as we work to find new packaging types that perform better when shipped and limit damages. As an interim solution, these resealable plastic bags are recyclable #4, which means they can be recycled by bringing them to many retail locations which accept soft plastic. We have no plans to change from our traditional, recyclable paper bags of flour in your local grocery store. Additionally, we continue to watch the market for new packaging technologies that can lessen our environmental impact.
This subject is important to us and you can rely on our team to continually evaluate ourselves as we look for ways to meet the growing need for baking products while also lessening our overall environmental footprint as a company. Happy baking!
