Tough steak?  Turn it into a juicy treat by generously salting the meat and letting it sit for about an hour before cooking.  The salt will draw out water from the steak and dissolve.  Then the salt water will be reabsorbed into the meat, where it will break down tough proteins.  Wipe away any excess saltwater from the steak and cook as usual.

Another great way to tenderize tough steak is to let it marinade for an hour in the fridge. If you use wine or lemon juice in the marinade, the acid in the liquid will help break down the meat. The only thing is that you can’t leave it sitting for more than two hours, or the meat will actually turn mushy.
