When the first subscription box launched, many people thought the concept would fail. They assumed that shoppers would rather visit stores, try out products for themselves and purchase things in person. Subscription boxes let customers pay one set fee and receive a new box every month, every few months or a few times a year. Some of the newest and hottest of those boxes are the ones designed for foodies. Food lovers can find recipes from their favorite chefs, new gadgets and tools for their kitchens and even products they can experiment with at home.

Plated

Plated is one of the more popular subscription boxes for foodies who still need a little help in the kitchen. Each box comes with all the ingredients needed to whip up a delicious dish for two to four people. All ingredients come in freezer bags and cases that protect each one during the shipping process. The boxes also come with detailed instructions and full color pictures that show customers how to put those dishes together and what the finished product should look like. Shoppers visit the website every month to select the dishes they want to make from several listed.

Southern Food of the Month

Southern Food of the Month is a club that lets shoppers buy six to 12 months at a time or opt for one month. The company sends customers what it deems as the best products available in the south every month. Former months included a kit that let customers make their own boiled peanuts, delicious jams made from peaches grown in the south and grits made the old-fashioned way by a southern mill. The company does a good job of sending customers something new and different every month.

Tyler Florence Fancy Box

Foodie and food expert Maxim Gorin credits the Tyler Florence Fancy Box among his favorites. Fancy was one of the first companies in the subscription box world, and it partners with a number of famous faces, including Pink and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Celebrity chef Tyler Florence now has a box of his own that he curates himself. The box often includes some of the ingredients that Florence uses himself and products from his own line. Customers also receive a selection of food gadgets and tools, including pot holders, wine bottle toppers and cookware.

Taste Trunk

Taste Trunk is one of the few food subscription box companies that give customers more options. Shoppers can select one of four different boxes: gourmet, BBQ, health or sweet. The health box includes a range of healthier snacks, while the BBQ box comes with sauces, rubs and other barbecue items. Sweet boxes come packed with desserts and sweet treats, and the gourmet boxes feature higher end items, including expensive jams and sauces. The boxes typically come with between four and six items. While some of the items are trials and samples that are on the smaller side, others are full size.

Some of the newest subscription boxes feature regional items from specific parts of the country, while other boxes let customers sample certain products from around the world. Foodies use these boxes to find products they never heard of before, to get new tools for use in their home kitchens and to get some ideas for new dishes.
