Would you believe stress causes belly fat? Our bodies are designed to store some fat around the belly, where it can be easily accessed for energy when we feel stressed. Once the stress passes, the hormone cortisol commands our body to eat again and refuel. That’s alright if you are very active, but for those who do not exercise, you better think about getting rid of belly fat now.

Having extra belly fat means higher risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. And a  new study shows that those who carry excess weight around the stomach in their 40’s are more likely to have dementia in their 70’s.
