This is another favorite of my kids.  Whenever I make this, the Chinese buns and the sauce are the first to go.  🙂


  • 1 1/2 Kilo pork leg
  • 8 cloves pounded garlic
  • 2 pcs. bay leaves
  • 4 pcs. star anise
  • 8 pcs. dried Shitake mushrooms soaked in water to soften
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 2 tbsp chinese cooking wine or mirin
  • 2 cups pork broth
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp. sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp. oyster sauce
  • 1/4 kilo lettuce leaves or Pechay Baguio
  • 4 tbsp. cornstarch dissolve in water
  • Chinese buns (you can find this in supermarkets)


1.) Put first 11 ingredients in a large pot and let  boil. Once boiling, lower heat and simmer for two hours.2.) When pork is tender, sesame oil, oyster sauce and season with salt and pepper.  Stir.3.) Add the cornstarch mixture and bring to the boil until sauce thickens.

4.) Add the lettuce leaves and simmer until the greens are cooked.5.) Serve in a bowl and enjoy with Chinese buns or rice.
